Hydroseeding and Erosion Control Specialists Based in the North West of England

CDTS delivers hydroseeding, erosion control and ecological seeding for construction and infrastructure projects across the North West of England

We work with Tier 1 contractors, highways authorities, house builders, landscape contractors, quarry operators and utility companies across Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cumbria and Staffordshire. Our fleet of 6 hydroseeders (2500L towed units through to 6000L lorry-mounted machines) means we match the right equipment to your site conditions, access constraints and programme requirements.

CONVENTIONAL SEEDING

Projects We Have Delivered Across the North West

The North West is where we are based and where we have been delivering seeding and erosion control projects for over 30 years. From motorway embankments and Metrolink extensions in Greater Manchester, to dam faces in the Pennines, landfill restoration across Lancashire, and SUDS ponds on housing developments in Cheshire, the range of work here reflects the full breadth of our capabilities.

Cheshire Green - Infrastructure and landscape planting

Client: Jones Bros Civil

Sector: Infrastructure

Location: Cheshire

Year: Ongoing

Hydroseeding and conventional seeding across 10,000m² plus the planting of 6,000 trees and shrubs at a major new infrastructure and employment site in Cheshire. A very wet site demanded careful timing and equipment selection to avoid ground damage while maintaining programme. All seeding and planting is establishing well despite the challenging ground conditions.

Murphy Construction New Head Office  - Wildflower and amenity seeding

Client: Ground Control

Sector: Commercial/Development

Location: Golborne

Year: 2025

Conventional and wildflower seeding across 10,000m² of the landscape surrounding Murphy Construction's new head office near Wigan. A high-profile commercial development where specification compliance and visual finish quality were critical for the client handover.

FCC Gowey Landfill - Landfill restoration seeding

Client: FCC Environmental

Sector: Landfill/Land Reclamation

Location: Chester

Year: 2025

Conventional seeding across 6 hectares of landfill restoration near Chester. Landfill capping and restoration demands rapid vegetation cover to control surface water runoff and meet Environment Agency closure conditions. CDTS has a long history of working with FCC Environmental and other major waste operators across the North West.

Landstruction SUDS Ponds - Hydroseeding

Client: Landstruction

Sector: Housing/Development

Location: Blackburn

Year: 2025

Hydroseeding 6,000m² of SUDS pond banks and basins on a new development in Blackburn. SUDS features require rapid vegetation cover to prevent erosion of engineered profiles and to meet adoption requirements. Hydroseeding bonds seed and mulch directly to the pond slopes, delivering visible germination in 7–14 days under optimal seeding conditions and avoiding the wash-off problems that conventional seeding often faces on these gradients.

Daresbury Estate - High specification landscape seeding

Client: Landstruction

Sector: Commercial

Location: Widnes

Year: 2025

Hydroseeding and high-specification conventional seeding across 14,000m² at the Daresbury Estate near Widnes. A prestige development where the finish quality and specification compliance mattered as much as the programme. Our equipment and experience allow us to deliver amenity-grade results on commercial and residential schemes where visual standards are non-negotiable.

Carden Park - Estate seeding

Client: Carden Park

Sector: Commercial

Location: Cheshire

Year: 2025

Conventional seeding across multiple contracts at the Carden Park estate and golf course near Chester, including 1,000m² of landscape restoration around a private house on the estate. Stony soil contaminated with builders' debris required careful preparation to achieve the high-quality finish the client expected. Established rapidly despite poor substrate conditions.

Liverpool FC Anfield Stadium - Counter terrorism bund seeding

Client: ID Verde

Sector: Security

Location: Liverpool

Year: 2021

Hydroseeding a newly constructed security bund at Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium. The bund had experienced patchy germination from an initial seeding attempt by others. CDTS was brought in to rescue the failed establishment, applying hydroseeding to achieve a uniform grass cover across the bund. A high-profile urban site where both structural function (soil stabilisation) and visual appearance were essential.

Manchester Metrolink Extension - Rail corridor seeding

Client: Confidential

Location: Manchester

Sector: Rail

Year: Multiple phases

Multiple stages of conventional, wildflower and hydroseeding across the Manchester Metrolink light rail extension, totalling tens of thousands of square metres. The constrained urban rail corridor demanded creative adaptation of equipment to reach areas with limited access. Hydroseeding along live track corridors where conventional methods cannot operate safely or efficiently.

SEEDING SPECIALISTS

Why Choose a Cheshire-Based Specialist

CDTS operates from Alport Farm, Malpas, Cheshire, placing us at the centre of the North West's infrastructure corridor. This means:

Rapid mobilisation

Most North West sites are within an hour of our base. For urgent programmes or weather-dependent seeding windows, we respond the same day when needed.

Local knowledge

Three decades of working across the region means we understand the ground conditions, the contractors operating here, and the specific challenges of sites from Cumbria to Staffordshire. We know what works on the heavy Mersey Valley clays, the sandy substrates of Lancashire's coast, and the thin upland soils of the Peak District fringe.

Established relationships

We work regularly with Tier 1 contractors, landscape contractors and utility companies across the North West, including Eric Wright, Jones Bros, Balfour Beatty, Ground Control, Landstruction, FCC Environmental, United Utilities and many others. Repeat appointments from these clients reflect consistent delivery against programme and specification.

FAQs

  • How quickly can CDTS get to my North West site?

We are based in Cheshire. Most North West sites from Crewe to Carlisle are within 60–90 minutes of our base. For sites in Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire, we are typically on site within an hour of leaving the yard.

  • What size of project can you handle?

We deliver everything from 1,000m² amenity seeding on private estates to 100+ hectare motorway and infrastructure programmes. Our fleet of 6 hydroseeders means we scale equipment to match the job, and we run multiple crews when programme demands it.

  • Do you work on live highway and rail sites?

Yes. A significant proportion of our North West work is on live highways (M6, M60, M62, A-roads) and active rail corridors (West Coast Main Line, Manchester Metrolink). We carry full RAMS for working under traffic management and rail possessions, and our teams hold the relevant safety certifications.

  • Can you work on environmentally sensitive sites like reservoirs and SSSIs?

Yes. We have delivered seeding on drinking water reservoirs (Heaton Reservoir, Naden Dam), river catchments (Mersey, Lune) and within proximity of sensitive habitats. We use 100% organic, non-toxic mulch products where environmental sensitivity demands it, and carry site-specific environmental controls for every project.

  • What sectors do you cover in the North West?

Highways, rail, housing and commercial developments, quarry and landfill restoration, SUDS ponds and basins, flood alleviation, public realm, golf courses, and private estates. Our North West portfolio covers virtually every sector where specialist seeding and erosion control are required.
