Hydroseeding & Erosion Control in North Wales

Delivering hydroseeding, erosion control and ecological seeding for construction and infrastructure projects across North Wales

CDTS North & West delivers hydroseeding, conventional seeding and erosion control across North Wales for highways, infrastructure, development and environmental projects. We work on sites where access, slope, exposure and ecological sensitivity all matter, using the right equipment and seeding method for each location rather than forcing one approach onto every scheme.

HYDROSEEDING

CONVENTIONAL SEEDING

Projects We Have Delivered Across North Wales

North Wales presents some of the most demanding site conditions in the UK: steep highway cuttings through slate and shale, exposed coastal embankments, environmentally sensitive river corridors, and mountain access tracks that restrict plant and vehicle movement. We have been delivering seeding and erosion control projects across this region for over 30 years.

Caernarfon Bypass

Completed: 2024

Location: Caernarfon

Sector: Highways

Client: Tilhill

One of our largest single schemes in North Wales. Hydroseeding across 60+ hectares of new road embankments, cuttings and verges on the Caernarfon bypass. The scale of the project required our 6000L lorry-mounted hydroseeder to maintain programme, with seed mixes specified to suit the local conditions and ecological requirements of the surrounding landscape.

Machynlleth Bridge

Completed: 2024 - Present

Location: Machynlleth

Sector: Highways

Client: Alun Griffiths

A 1km new road alignment around a new bridge in a highly sensitive environmental setting. The specification required local-provenance seed and plants throughout, with CDTS providing hydroseeding, conventional seeding, wildflower/BNG seeding, BFM erosion control and planting of 15,000 trees across 5 hectares. We remain on site for ongoing maintenance, ensuring establishment meets ecological sign-off requirements.

Rhyl Sea Defences

Completed: 2025

Location: Rhyl

Sector: Coastal/Infrastructure

Client: Hollingsworth Bros

Hydroseeding 4 hectares of newly constructed sea defence embankments at Rhyl. Coastal sites demand rapid vegetation establishment to prevent erosion from wind, wave action and surface water before the next storm season. Our hydroseeding process bonds seed and mulch to exposed substrates, delivering germination within days.

A55 Bangor

Completed: 2025

Location: Bangor

Sector: Highways

Client: Alun Griffiths

Hydroseeding and conventional seeding across 8 hectares of the A55 trunk road corridor near Bangor, combined with the planting of 70,000 hedging plants. A substantial programme requiring close coordination with live traffic management and environmental controls on one of North Wales's busiest road corridors.

Caernarfon Sports Facility

Completed: 2025

Location: Caernarfon

Sector: Commercial

Client: McCardle Sport & Leisure

Conventional seeding to 6,000m² of pitch surrounds and landscape planting at a new sports facility in Caernarfon. Demonstrating that our work extends beyond heavy civil engineering into precise amenity seeding where specification compliance and finish quality matter.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How quickly can CDTS North & West mobilise to a North Wales site?

Our base in Cheshire is less than an hour from the A55 corridor and Wrexham. For projects deeper into Snowdonia or the Llyn Peninsula, we are typically on site within a half-day of confirmation.

  • What equipment do you use on steep or restricted-access sites?

Our 2500L towed hydroseeders reach sites that lorry-mounted machines cannot access — common on narrow rural roads and live trunk routes across North Wales. For major highway and infrastructure schemes, our 6000L units deliver the output needed. We match equipment to the access and scale of every site.

  • Can you work within Snowdonia National Park and other environmentally sensitive areas?

Yes. Many of our North Wales projects sit within or adjacent to Snowdonia National Park, SSSIs, SACs and sensitive river catchments including salmon and trout rivers. We carry site-specific RAMS and environmental controls for every project, and use local-provenance seed where specified.

  • When is the best time to hydroseed in North Wales?

The main growing season runs from late March to mid-October, though hydroseeding extends this window by protecting seed from wash-off and frost damage. Autumn seeding is common on highway schemes where earthworks complete in summer.

  • Do you already work with contractors operating in North Wales?

We have long-standing relationships with Tier 1 contractors in the region, including Alun Griffiths, Jones Bros, Tilhill and others. Repeat appointments from these clients reflect consistent delivery against programme and specification.

Discuss a North Wales Project

Whether you are tendering a highway scheme on the A55, planning coastal erosion protection, or need BNG-compliant wildflower establishment on a development site anywhere in North Wales, we can help.
