Highway, Road & Rail Projects
Hydroseeding and Erosion Control Across UK Transport Infrastructure
CDTS North & West has been stabilising highway and rail earthworks for over 30 years — from 100+ hectare motorway schemes to access-restricted rail embankments completed during night possessions. Below is a selection of recent and notable projects that demonstrate our capability across the transport sector.
Our highway and rail clients include Tier 1 contractors such as Alun Griffiths, Balfour Beatty, Costain, Jones Bros and Story Rail, along with specialist landscape contractors including Tilhill and Lowther.

Recent Highway & Road Projects
M42 Motorway — West Midlands
Client: Lowther
Service: Hydroseeding
Year: 2025
Hydroseeding across 100+ hectares on the M42 motorway corridor — one of the largest single hydroseeding programmes in our current portfolio. Motorway construction and widening strips vast areas of vegetation from embankments, cuttings, central reservations and verges, and rapid re-vegetation is essential to control erosion, meet Highways England landscape requirements, and protect programme timescales. The M42 programme demonstrates CDTS's capacity to deliver at a scale that matches the demands of major national infrastructure — 100+ hectares requires fleet availability, material supply logistics, and the operational planning to work safely alongside live motorway traffic management.
Caernarfon Bypass — North Wales
Completed: 2024
Service: Hydroseeding
Client: Tilhill
One of our largest single schemes in North Wales. Hydroseeding across 60+ hectares of new road embankments, cuttings and verges on the Caernarfon bypass. The scale of the project required our 6000L lorry-mounted hydroseeder to maintain programme, with seed mixes specified to suit the local conditions and ecological requirements of the surrounding landscape.
A55 Trunk Road — Bangor, North Wales
Completed: 2025
Service: Hydroseeding & Conventional Seeding
Client: Alun Griffiths
Hydroseeding and conventional seeding across 8 hectares of the A55 trunk road corridor near Bangor, combined with the planting of 70,000 hedging plants. A substantial programme requiring close coordination with live traffic management and environmental controls on one of North Wales's busiest road corridors.
Machynlleth Bridge — Mid Wales
Completed: 2024 - Current
Service: Hydroseeding
Client: Alun Griffiths
A 1km new road alignment around a new bridge in a highly sensitive environmental setting. The specification required local-provenance seed and plants throughout, with CDTS providing hydroseeding, conventional seeding, wildflower/BNG seeding, BFM erosion control and planting of 15,000 trees across 5 hectares. We remain on site for ongoing maintenance, ensuring establishment meets ecological sign-off requirements.
Recent Rail Projects
Cumnock Railway Station — Ayrshire, Scotland
Client: Story Rail
Service: Hydroseeding
Year: 2024
Hydroseeding 8,000m² of rail embankments and station surrounds at Cumnock Railway Station in East Ayrshire. Rail seeding demands working within strict possession windows, and this project required night closures to access the track corridor safely. CDTS mobilised equipment and crew from Cheshire to deliver the hydroseeding programme within the available rail possessions, applying seed and mulch under floodlights to ensure the work was completed without programme overrun. Story Rail is a repeat client, and this project is one of several we have delivered across the Scottish and northern rail networks.
Frodingham Rail Embankment — Near Scunthorpe
Client: Story Rail
Service: Hydroseeding
Year: 2025
Hydroseeding of a rail embankment within the constraints of an operational railway — restricted access, safety protocols and coordination with rail possessions. CDTS North & West used towed equipment suited to lineside access restrictions, delivering reliable vegetation establishment for a repeat rail client.
